Guardian of the Forest: A Sumatran Story of Wings, Feet and Trunk

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,To close the academic year with meaning and heart, our Seedling Tots to Early Bloomers students took the stage in a special performance titled “Guardian of the Forest”. With joyful confidence, they each played a role—from tiny ants and buzzing bees to the mighty elephant—all working together to deliver a message far greater than the stage they stood on.

Inspired by Surah Al-A’raf (7):56, this story reminds us that the Earth is not ours to rule, but a trust (amanah) from Allah. The performance beautifully wove together themes of teamwork, kindness, and remembrance of the Creator, showing that even the smallest acts of care can reflect our love for Allah and His creation. Through song, movement, and heartfelt expression, our little learners became storytellers of truth and kindness—showing that no one is too small to carry a big message.

Barakallahu fiikum, dear students, teachers, and parents, for making this performance so meaningful. May our children continue to grow as caretakers of the Earth, understanding that everything belongs to Allah and we are entrusted to protect it with sincerity and love!On 22 April, 2022, our students at Happy Hope School celebrated Earth Day with an inspiring hands-on project that combined creativity, sustainability, and meaningful action. As part of their Exit Point and learning reflection, students designed and built a turtle shelter using plastic waste, which they turned into eco-bricks. This was their way of showing care for marine life and taking real steps to reduce environmental harm.

The event became even more enriching through a special collaboration with local fashion brand Kamiidea. A guest speaker shared how discarded fabric from clothing production can be repurposed into strong, sustainable bricks—opening our students’ eyes to the power of innovation and responsible consumption.

Rooted in the belief of Tawhid, we reminded students that caring for the Earth is part of our duty as khalifah (stewards) on this planet. When we take action with sincerity for the sake of Allah, even small efforts become acts of worship.

Jazakumullah Khairan, our beloved students, for turning waste into something wonderful. May your actions continue to inspire and protect this Earth we are entrusted with.

Wassalamu’alakum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
